CAPACITY BUILDING FOR EALA MEMBERS IN KISWAHILI

Self-Evaluation

Introduction The EAKC has planned to undertake capacity building for EALA Members in Kiswahili. This is elaborated in the attached background document. To effectively plan and implement the capacity building/training activities, there is need to undertake an assessment of the capacities of the EALA Members in the usage of Kiswahili. It is noted from the onset that the members would be at different levels of proficiency in Kiswahili ( i.e., beginner, intermediate and advanced). The capacity-building programs would thus be tailored to these various proficiency levels. The capacity building modules for the various levels (beginners/intermediate/ Advanced level) are aligned with the requirements of the American Council on the Teaching of Foreign Languages (ACTFL). Based on this, an assessment tool composed of various Can-Do Statements has been developed to ensure high-quality, internationally recognized language proficiency benchmarks. The EALA Members are requested to kindly fill in the assessment tool to enable the EAKC establish the Kiswahili training/capacity building needs. The Assessment Tool Below you will find some Can-Do Statements to assess your ability to use Kiswahili language in various contexts and for various purposes. For each statement, please tick (✔) the one that best describes your ability/capacity in Kiswahili. You do not need to mark the one that doesn’t describe your capacity/ability.
