Strategic Priorities (2017-2022)

The EAKC Strategic Plan (2017-2022) identifies the following priority areas:
  • Promotion and development of Kiswahili for wider communication in EAC.
  • Amendment of EAC Treaty for declaration and adoption of Kiswahili as one of the official languages of EAC.
  • Capacity building of Kiswahili institutions in Partner States.
  • Staff and student exchanges
  • Resource mobilization for various activities and programs
  • Coordinate and harmonization of translations of key documents into and out of Kiswahili
  • Translation and interpretation services
  • Preparation and harmonization of EAC positions on Kiswahili
  • Assessment of knowledge, attitude and practice in use of Kiswahili in Partner States
  • Build partnerships and collaborations
  • Initiation and strengthening Kiswahili research
  • Establish network of Kiswahili researchers and practitioners in EAC
  • Publication and dissemination of Kiswahili research findings
  • Establish database of Kiswahili research publications
  • Institutional assessment of training needs in Kiswahili
  • Conduct trainings based on identified needs
  • Amendment of EAKC protocol
  • Establishment of EAKC Management Board
  • Enhancement of staff capacity
  • Capacity building for staff
